The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Forces of Congo (FARDC) in a joint operation killed one Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorist in the areas of Maserekwede in Ituri Province, in eastern DR Congo.

Maj. Bilal Katamba, the publicist for the UPDF Mountain Division/Operation Shujaa, said in a statement released on Saturday that the ongoing operation aims to completely flush out the terrorists who have split into groups of five to seven from the four sectors of the joint operations.

The statement indicated that the Mountain Division and overall Operation Shujaa commander, Maj. Gen. Dick Olum is stationed in sector four at Luna, the tactical headquarters of the operation to coordinate the hunt for the remaining terrorists.

Katamba said, relatedly, that the joint UPDF/FARDC forces on Friday (March 8) recovered more weapons from the ADF. In a fight that occurred in the areas of Kasongo in Ituri province, one PK machine gun, one sub-machine gun (SMG), and 100 rounds of ammunition were recovered.

“The continued loss of weapons and ammunition is a big blow to the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIS)-affiliated group as they are in dire need of the same to prolong their survival,” said Katamba.
