One dead, two injured in Kanungu road accident

A fatal accident that occurred this Monday (November, 14) at Kiboroga along Butogota-Kanyantorogo highway in Kanungu district has left one person dead and two critically injured.

The accident, according to Police, involved a motor vehicle registration number UBF 060T Isuzu of highway bus co. and a motorcycle registration number UFF 734P Bajaj red in colour.

The accident, which occurred at around 4:30am was recorded as TAR 44/2022 at Kanungu Police Station.

According to a statement released today (November, 14), Elly Maate, the Kigezi region spokesperson said the motorcycle was being ridden by Crescent Niwamanya, 25, a resident of Karangara village, Butogota sub-county in Kanungu district.

Police purport that while the motor vehicle and motorcycle were moving in the same direction, one of the passengers on the motorcycle realising that the bus was approaching, jumped off and made the rider lose control and fell, hence was crushed and died on spot, while the two passengers were injured.

The police identified the injured victims as Meverous Natamba, 24, a housewife and Truth Natukunda, 23.

“Police visited the scene and the victims were rushed to Katate Health Centre Four for treatment and the body of the deceased to the mortuary of the same health centre for postmortem,” Maate said.

Maate said the motor vehicle and motorcycle are currently parked at Kanungu Police Station for inspection and inquiries have been initiated to establish the likely cause of the accident.
