President Yoweri Museveni has contributed sh20m and 300 iron sheets towards the completion of Nyendo Catholic Church in Masaka city.

The donation was delivered by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja on September 7, 2025, in Nyendo-Mukungwe Division, where she also contributed sh10m on behalf of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).

The fundraising ceremony was attended by the former leader of opposition and Democratic Front (DF) president, Mathias Mpuuga, who donated sh5m.

Catholic faithful and leaders led by Bishop Serverus Jjumba of Masaka Diocese also raised nearly sh10m.

Nabbanja said the NRM government acknowledges the contribution of the Catholic Church towards the progress of the nation, particularly in health and education.

She added that the government has provided peace, stability, and infrastructure development to ensure freedom of worship.

“NRM government has constructed good roads all over the country, look at the nice roads in Masaka city, President Museveni loves the people of Masaka, it’s the reason Masaka was elevated to city status,” she said.

Nabbanja also cited initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and other wealth creation programmes introduced by the NRM government to improve household incomes.

“Poverty levels have reduced because of the interventions since 1996,” she said.

She further stated that diseases have reduced in communities because of improved programmes by the Ministry of Health.

Nabbanja advised the people of Masaka to “vote wisely” in 2026.

“Do not vote for the marijuana smokers where my friend Mpuuga left,” she said.

She added that opposition parties, especially the NUP and FDC, are suffering setbacks and divisions, and urged people to support President Museveni for his leadership experience.

Nabbanja also advised Mpuuga and his DF party to consider cooperating with the NRM government, as the Democratic Party (DP) and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) have done.

She further cautioned Mpuuga against running for the presidency. “Do not vote for Mpuuga if he comes to contest as President, contest for MP and return to Parliament,” she said.
