Nwoya district in Uganda's north has failed to raise two billion shillings (sh2b) in local revenue over the last three financial years, which has negatively affected service delivery, according to the district speaker, Tony Okello.

He particularly blamed the poor local revenue collection on leakages within the technical wing, lack of transparency and interference from politicians.

Okello said Nwoya raised a little over 300 million shillings (sh300.037m) in the last financial year, falling short of its target.

Meanwhile, Christopher Omara, the Nwoya resident district commissioner, said the government has invested heavily in resource allocation, but that some individuals are failing the government due to incompetent human resource.

He said there has been poor technical supervision and coordination of service delivery in the district.

Nwoya district earmarked sh33.5b in the budget for the 2025/2026 financial year.
