Some polling stations remained widely empty for extended periods, with only a handful of voters lining behind their candidates once polling began.
Kato Abooki, the NRM physical mobiliser for Rwenzori and Toro sub-regions has attributed this low turnout to several factors, including lack of awareness about the primaries, and possible logistical challenges.
He also accused the NRM leadership at the centre for failing to facilitate them so that they can carry out the mobilization process. "The low turnout is a wake-up call for us to engage more effectively with our members," he says.
