"This is not the first one to cross to the ruling NRM from Ruhinda. There are several others who are now working for NRM who used to be strong supporters of FDC," he said.

Party members, who contributed to the recruitment and winning over members of other parties to NRM, will be rewarded with medals during NRM Day, New Vision Online has learnt.

Security minister, who is also the Rukungiri district National Resistance Movement party chairperson, Jim Muhwezi, made the revelation over the weekend while receiving FDC district mobiliser Eric Nabasa Kayangi who crossed to NRM.

The former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) mobiliser crossed over to NRM after 20 years of supporting the Opposition party.

"This is not the first one to cross to the ruling NRM from Ruhinda. There are several others who are now working for NRM who used to be strong supporters of FDC," he said.

Muhwezi revealed that most members were changed by Martin Mwambusya, Can. Ben Turamye and Posiano Ngabirano.

"There is nothing that we can give these people for being patriotic but to recognise them and reward them with medals," he said.

Kayangyi, who hails from Kajwomushana in Ruhinda sub-county, was welcomed into the NRM by Muhwezi and district chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama.

No future in FDC

Nabaasa announced that he is officially crossing to the NRM party saying he has seen the light and realised FDC has no future for him and the country at large.

He equally promised to mobilise other FDC supporters in Rukungiri to join the NRM.

Jim Muhwezi said winning Nabaasa over is a great achievement and foundation to foster development in Rukungiri.
