NRM Parliamentary caucus to replace fallen MP Friday

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) top organ, the Central Executive Committee has declared Friday, July 16 this week, as the date for the election of representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly.

The party Secretary General, Richard Todwong, said members of the Parliamentary caucus will vote for the six candidates Friday to replace the fallen Mathias Kasamba at EALA.

The elections will be conducted by the party electoral commission in accordance with the parliamentary caucus rules of procedure and parliamentary rules of procedure, under strict observance of the Standard Operating Procedures.

Among those approved to contest include;   former State Minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi and former State Minister for Primary Health James Kakooza.

Other contenders include; former Minister for East African Affairs Julius Maganda, former Kalungu East MP Mawuye Lule, former Gomba district Women MP Nakato Kyabanji and Abas Mutumba.
   
The committee also approved all the names of the legislators who expressed interest in positions of leadership for the NRM parliamentary caucus.

For the position of Vice-Chairperson, four MPs were approved. These are Herbert Tom Kinobere, Isaac Otimgiw, John Baptist Lokii and Agnes Taaka from Bugiri district.

Three members were approved to contest for the position of publicity and are Dan Kimosho, Hellen Auma Wandera and Alex Kintu Brandon.

For the position of treasurer, four legislators were approved. They are Christine Akello, Josyline Kamateneti, Sarah Najjuma and Faith Loru Nakut.

The position of the general secretary only attracted one aspirant-Lillian Aber- who went through unopposed.
