Notorious armed warrior arrested in Kotido

Security forces in Kotido have arrested a notorious armed warrior identified as Apanamut Mojong, 21, in a joint operation conducted by the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

According to Mike Longole, the police spokesperson for Mt Moroto/ASTU, Mojong, a resident of Nataba cell in Lokitelaebu South ward, Lokitelaebu town council, Jie county, was captured following intelligence-led operations targeting criminal elements terrorising communities.

He is accused of wearing UPDF uniforms, brandishing firearms, and staging violent robberies in Kamor sub-county, Kanawat in West Division, and Napumpum sub-county.

Mojong is currently in custody awaiting further interrogation and prosecution.

24 stolen cattle recovered in Karenga

In a separate incident, security forces in Karenga district are pursuing armed Karamojong warriors who raided Wankenya village, Sarachom parish, Lobalangit sub-county, on the night of November 8, 2025, stealing 33 head of cattle.

According to Longole, the animals belonged to Lomoi Kalanda, a resident of the area. The joint ASTU–UPDF team responded swiftly, recovering 24 head of cattle, though nine remain missing.

“The security forces are continuing operations to recover the remaining animals and apprehend the suspects,” Longole said.
