MBALE - North Mbale Diocese Bishop the right Rev. Samuel Gidudu has implored politicians and those in authority to prioritise God’s work while still in positions of power.

“Do not sit back and assume that other people will do God’s work. It means nothing to have a lot of possession when you do not support the work of God,” he said.

Gidudu further urged Christians to always give to God so that they can also be given in return. He drew an analogy of a bag with holes. He demonstrated how it can never hold anything.

“A bag with a hole is like a Christian who does not give to the Lord, whatever he gets just vanishes,” he said.

He made the remarks today, November 6, 2022, during the fundraising ceremony for the construction of St Matthew Cathedral Buhugu in North Mbale Diocese. The diocese was inaugurated in 1992.

Speaker of Parliament preaches unity

Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, who was supposed to be the guest of honour, delegated Bulambuli County Member of Parliament Ignatius Mudimi to attend the function.

In her message read to the congregants, Among said unity among Christians was key and implored them to give generously towards the Church. She pledged sh20m towards the project.

Hundreds of Christians gathered from all the corners of Bugisu and neighbouring regions. Political leaders from Bugisu and other places came together to give a hand to the construction of God’s house.

Since the Sironko population majorly depends on agriculture, Christians brought in various items, including matooke, cows, goats, sugarcanes, chicken, turkeys and coffee seedlings for auctioning to raise money for the church project.

Budadiri West Constituency MP Nathan Nandala, who was accompanied by his wife, Florence Nandala, spearheaded the auctioning process.

He contributed sh30m cash, his Nandala Foundation contributed sh5m and Bugisu Co-operative Union gave sh5m.

Manjiya County MP John Baptist Nambeshe, who also doubles as the Chief Whip of Opposition in Parliament, while giving his speech, decried the unmotorable Nalugugu-Budadiri-Namagumba circular road. He asked the Government to take interest in improving the road infrastructure for the people of Sironko and Bugisu at large.

Sironko Woman MP Florence Nambozo and Isaiah Sasaga (Budadiri East MP), were the key mobilisers for the event. Other Bugisu MPs, civil servants and other Christians contributed handsomely to make a total collection of over sh500m both in cash and pledges.

In the name of solidarity, other MPs from other regions including Fox Odoi (West Budama North) gave a hand to the project.
