The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, the Rt Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, has urged Ugandans across the country to reject politics of division and hatred, and instead embrace unity and peaceful coexistence.
Bishop Asiimwe, the sixth Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, emphasised the need for national unity, peace and collective effort focused on the development of the country, communities and families.
He made the appeal while delivering his Christmas message during a press conference held at his diocesan offices in Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, over the weekend.
“Even if you support different political parties, I urge you to remain united and work together,” he stated, while also calling on Ugandans to seek divine intervention through prayer.
The Bishop encouraged citizens to actively participate in elections when the time comes, noting that voting is a fundamental right through which leaders are chosen. He further called for peace within homes and communities.
“The way we have seen you going in rallies with a lot of excitement and happiness, it should be the same way you should be happy on the voting day and after voting,” Bishop Asiimwe added.
He also urged security agencies to act professionally while executing their duties and to apply reasonable force when dealing with unarmed civilians.
Bishop Asiimwe further advised parents to spend cautiously during the festive season, reminding them of upcoming financial responsibilities, including school fees in the new year.
He concluded by praying for blessings upon President Yoweri Museveni, his family and all Ugandans, as well as prisoners, the sick and those facing oppression.
