No court business as Family Court relocates

Business at the Family Division of the High Court will this week be disrupted;
 the Judiciary has announced.

According to a statement released by the Judiciary, this is to enable the relocation of the court to a rented four-storeyed building on Plot 5 Lourdel Road, Nakasero from its current location in Makindye, Kampala.

“The Family Court will be located on Lourdel Road, Nakasero opposite the Ministry of Health from May 6 to 9. During this period the court will move its property which involves uninstalling and re-installing certain facilities related to computer networks, and power back-up,” reads part of the statement dated May 6, 2024.  

The Registrar High Court, Rosemary Bareebe, said the services at the Division will be interrupted.

“The Division will remain closed to court users and the general public during this period. Normal operations will resume on May 13, 2024,” she said.

Bareebe said new dates will be communicated for all matters that had been cause listed.

The Family Division was created in April 2005 as a division of the high court that handles administration causes, family causes, (adoption, guardianship, affiliation/maintenance), miscellaneous causes, miscellaneous applications, civil appeals, civil suits, originating summons, civil revisions, and divorce cases.
