MPIGI — Nnaabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, the queen of Buganda kingdom, has rallied women in leadership to work hard and create a legacy which will benefit future generations.
Addressing hundreds of people who turned out to mark the Women's Day celebrations in Buganda held at Buwama subcounty headquarters in Mawokota county, Mpigi district, on Friday. Nnaabagereka also encouraged Women in business to embrace new trends in technology.
"I encourage all women, especially in leadership positions, to always be down to earth, create legacy, care for the people in communities they live in, and always work towards creating a positive legacy for the future generations to follow", the Nnaabagereka told hundreds at the events.
The queen also emphasised the need for people to adopt best health practices like making regular visits to health centres for checkups and also exercises to prevent diseases resulting from poor health lifestyles.
"It is important to take good care of your bodies and also adopt good lifestyle practices like regular checkups in the health centres and regular body exercise, these help to keep your bodies healthy and also fight diseases", she emphasised.
She also advocated for unity among women if they are to achieve stable growth and development, and also advised them to engage in productive activities that are aimed not only at bettering their livelihoods but also at benefiting communities.
For role models, she called for formal recognition of different women who have excelled in serving the kingdom.
Buganda minister for Gender and Social Development, thanked the Queen for steering the empowerment of Women in Buganda through creating different initiatives and funds towards uplifting the standards of women.
"We would like to thank you for your tireless efforts towards empowering women and the girl child. It should be understood that the Nnaabagereka Development Trust was created to mainly advocate for the rights and plight of the girl child and women," she said.
The main celebrations featured an exhibition with stalls displaying agricultural products and items from different women's groups from several Buganda Counties.
