Health authorities and residents of Omito Health Centre II in Kapir sub-county, Ngora district, are appealing to the government and district leaders to erect a perimeter fence around the facility following a recent attempted theft.
The appeal follows an incident in which three suspected thieves broke into the facility at night, targeting essential drugs and equipment belonging to the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).
Residents say the absence of a perimeter fence, coupled with numerous shortcuts across the health centre compound, has raised serious security concerns, endangering both staff and vital health resources.
Authorities are now calling on the government to secure the premises with proper fencing and to deploy additional, well-trained security personnel to protect the facility.
Isaac Boa, the only security guard on duty that night, managed to apprehend one of the suspects. He is now calling for reinforcement through the deployment of more security guards to improve surveillance at the health centre.
The suspect, Paul Echodu, has since pleaded guilty and revealed that he was part of a group of three men who had planned the break-in.
The health centre's in-charge, Mather Adipo, confirmed that the incident occurred on Monday, July 28 2025, at around 2:00 a.m., saying she was woken up by a gunshot after the guard apprehended the suspect.
The community remains hopeful that urgent measures will be taken to secure the health centre and protect vital health services from future threats.
