The Woman Member of Parliament for Ngora district, Stella Apolot Isodo, has died in hospital in Kampala. She was 51.

She had been sick for a while, Ngora County MP Juliet Achayo Lodou said while confirmed the news to New Vision.

“It's true my colleague and a sister has died."

Apolot's death on Saturday (January 17) at Kampala Hospital came only days after the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate lost her re-election bid to National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer Josephine Pedun.

Newcomer Pedun was declared winner with 17,010 votes against Apolot's 11,334.

Achayo said Apolot had been admitted at the intensive care unit of Kampala Hospital. She had served as the spokesperson of Teso Parliamentary Group.

FDC president Patrick Oboi Amuriat said the legislator was last year flown out of the country for specialized treatment and returned during campaign time.

“She underwent successful operation from abroad and returned with a hope of recovering well and start campaigns," he said, adding that her agents did the campaigning for her as she recovered.

“Even without campaigning [herself], she garnered 11,334 votes. She would not have lost that seat if she was not sick,” said Amuriat.

Juliet Agonyo, the Soroti city speaker, said Teso has lost a leader who related with all the people.

“It is a sad moment for her family because her step-brother is being buried on Sunday, January 18, and now her,” Agonyo said.
