The road is part of the World Bank-funded North Eastern Road Corridor Asset Management Project.

The 340km road works under the North Eastern Road Corridor Asset Management Project (NERAMP) connect 11 districts, namely Tororo, Mbale, Bukedea, Kumi, Ngora, Soroti, Kaberamaido, Dokolo, Lira, Kole and Oyam.

This is the longest road project ever undertaken by the Ugandan government.
