TORORO - A total of 200 needy Muslim communities in Tororo municipality have received food donations in preparation to kick-start the holy month of Ramadan.
The food worth shillings 7.5 million donated today, February 17, 2026, by Tororo Cement and Alpha Haulers, includes rice, posh, sugar, salt and cooking oil. The exercise took place at the main mosque along the Tororo- Busia road.
According to Juma Seyyid, who co-ordinated the donation, the beneficiaries were identified by their Imams in all the mosques spread all over the municipality.
Seyyid said it has always been part of Tororo Cement culture to associate with the Muslim community whenever they require help.
He said the donation is expected to help the beneficiaries overcome the challenge of a lack of food, especially when they begin their fasting.
Farida Muhammad, a beneficiary, said the donation has come at the right time when they are faced with serious food shortages as a result of the prolonged drought that has affected food harvest.
She thanked the donors for their generous support, saying the donation is going to supplement their nutrition.
Abdallah Ochieng, another beneficiary, expressed his excitement, saying the donation has helped him overcome the challenge of food now that the little resources he had have been redirected to cater for children to go back to school.
