Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has called upon graduates to create jobs if they fail to get them.

“The World is yours to conquer. If jobs are not forthcoming, create them, for we have empowered you not only to be employable but also to be entrepreneurs. Be the light that others will follow,” Prof Nawangwe said.

Prof Nawangwe also encouraged the graduates to go out to the world and make it a better place.

“You have worked hard to get a degree or diploma from one of the best universities in the World. This is a license for you to succeed in whatever you choose to do in your life career. But always remember that success will only come with discipline and hard work while honouring your parents and fearing God,” Prof Nawangwe noted.

In the absence of the Chancellor, Nawangwe is presiding over the 74th Graduation ceremony, which will conclude on Friday (January 2, 2024).

Tuesday saw students from the College of Education and External Studies, and the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences graduate.

The Colleges have registered breakthroughs in teaching and learning, research and innovations that are significantly solving societal problems.

College Achievements

The College of Education and External Studies, through the Institute of Open, Distance and e-Learning (IODeL), has continued to provide backstopping support services to all Colleges in the University for transforming the classroom-based course content into well-instructionally designed online course content for blended teaching and learning.

Makerere University researchers from the Department of Agricultural and Bio-systems Engineering at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences led by Dr Peter Tumutegyereize developed a Solar-powered Cooker (MakSol Cooker), a cutting-edge solar-powered cooking solution that will revolutionize cooking practices while reducing carbon footprints in households.

The innovation will create a positive impact on public health and mitigate the environmental consequences of traditional cooking practices.
