National Urban Development Conference kicks off in Kampala

Uganda’s first-ever National Urban Development Conference has commenced at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

The two-day event serves as a platform for stakeholders to share experiences, showcase best practices, and forge partnerships aimed at transforming Uganda’s urban landscapes.

By press time on Wednesday, works and transport minister Gen. Katumba Wamala was scheduled to officially open the conference on behalf of President Yoweri Museveni.

Organised by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, the conference brings together urban planners, policymakers, local government officials, private sector players, and development partners to discuss strategies for sustainable urban growth.



It is expected to examine the pivotal role of infrastructure development in enhancing urban resilience and stimulating economic growth. It also aims to align urban development initiatives with Uganda’s national development goals and international frameworks.

The theme of the conference is: “Accelerating Urban Development through Infrastructure: The Role of Cities in Achieving Sustainable Development.”

Keynote speakers

The conference will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, and workshops focusing on innovative approaches to urban planning, infrastructure development, and sustainable city management.
