KAMPALA - The Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat in the Office of the President is set to showcase innovations and technologies developed in Uganda during the upcoming National Science Week.
The event aims to provide innovators with opportunities to market their products.
This was revealed by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Monica Musenero, while announcing the event at the Deep Tech Centre in Namanve on Tuesday, May 13.
Under the theme Made in Uganda: From Innovation to Market, Dr Musenero said the science week will feature several Ugandan developers of local technologies and innovations who are creating products that add value to the lives of Ugandans.
She explained that this year’s science week is a culmination of achievements registered by the ministry over recent years.
These include the transition from piloting ideas to building industries, conducting the first clinical trials for locally developed therapeutics, and expanding the electric vehicle ecosystem — which now includes over 5,000 electric motorcycles and 27 buses on the road, with up to 40% local content.
Other milestones include the establishment of a national charging infrastructure, with over 140 electric battery swapping stations across the country.
Dr Musenero added that the Secretariat has revitalised key manufacturing plants such as Sukulu Phosphates, launched the Deep Tech and Climate Tech summits, and operationalised vaccine manufacturing lines — not only for animals but also for humans.
The six-day Science Week will take place from Saturday, June 15, to Friday, June 20, at the Kololo Independence Grounds.
