WAKISO - Resident farmers of Wamilongo parish in Busukuma division, Nansana municipality in Wakiso district, have a reason to smile after receiving shillings one million each under the Parish Development Model (PDM).
The 50 beneficiaries from five villages gathered at Kibibi Catholic Church in Wamilongo on February 16, 2026, where they received the funds on their mobile phones.
They thanked President Yoweri Museveni for supporting them and pledged their continued support.
Most of the beneficiaries are farmers who said they plan to invest the money in growing tomatoes and eggplants, as well as in piggery and poultry farming, among other enterprises, to improve their livelihoods.
Nansana Municipality deputy Resident District Commissioner Charles Lwanga witnessed the disbursement of the funds and warned beneficiaries against misusing the money.
Lwanga revealed that over shillings 10 billion in PDM funds have been disbursed in the municipality. He noted that this could be one of the reasons the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has gained support in various parts of Wakiso, particularly in Nansana.
In Gombe Division, other beneficiaries also received their PDM funds in an event witnessed by the RDC, who encouraged them to invest the money in enterprises they are familiar with.
About PDM
Launched in February 2022 by President Museveni, PDM aims to transition 33% of Ugandan households from subsistence to the money economy by promoting income generation, food security and wealth creation at the parish level.
The programme involves multiple implementing agencies at various levels. The local government ministry leads co-ordination at the national level, while district and parish authorities are responsible for implementation on the ground.
Key sectoral players include the agriculture ministry (MAAIF) and the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), which are working to ensure quality control in product processing and encourage micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to pursue certification.
Other institutions, such as the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance and the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) are involved in areas like community mobilisation and data collection.
In a post on social media on November 18, 2025, the finance ministry said: In accordance with the PDM policy, the Government releases PDM funds in two tranches of shillings 50 million for each PDM SACCO every six months.
"The Parish Development Model is no longer a theory; it is a reality. It is in your parishes. It is in your households. PDM is growing bigger, stronger and more impactful," Kasaija said, while releasing the funds at the finance ministry headquarters in Kampala city.
According to the ministry, the Government has so far transferred shillings 3.216 trillion directly to 10,589 parishes and each has now received at least 300 million.
"99% of these funds have already been disbursed to 3.27 million Ugandans".
