NAM, G77+China summits: Airtel donates 500 sim cards with airtime to guests

KAMPALA - Airtel Uganda has donated 500 phone Sim-Cards loaded with airtime worth sh50,000 to the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G-77+China summit delegates at the Speke Resort Munyonyo for all the time they will stay in the country.
The company, which was chosen as the alternate official internet service provider for the two Summits has also installed 5G connectivity at the Speke Resort Convention Centre and inside the conference rooms where the summits will take place, boosting their connectivity along the routes from Entebbe International Airport to the venue.
They have also boosted connectivity in hotels where the guests will be accommodated and all places around these facilities and at Mulago National Referral Hospital where some guests might seek services during the two summits.

The company revealed that it has also enhanced connectivity in 49 other sites across Kampala Capital City, both costing sh90m.

He said the company took pride in having been appointed the alternate official Internet Service Provider for the two summits.
He said in embracing the spirit of digital inclusivity and progress Airtel Uganda was ‘proud to affirm its mission to bridge digital divides and forge strong connections through the unparalleled capabilities of the Internet’.
He stated that Airtel would provide both 5G fibre cable internet connectivity for the duration of the summits, taking pride that it serves 17 countries which are all representatives in the two summits.
“Inside the conference rooms at Munyonyo we have an extremely good network on 5G internet, and we have beefed up connectivity in the hotels and other places,” he explained, adding that the company had installed a booster at Nambiriggwa Bridge and improved connectivity along the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway to prevent delegates losing network while in transit.
They have also strategically put mobile trucks with internet gadgets.

He added, “Each interaction, document shared, and video conference at this summit could be the catalyst for innovative solutions, life-changing policies, or transformative partnerships across the world.”
Dr. Zawedde said the ministry sought several partnerships including Airtel support towards the two summits and commended the company for their positive response.
“We appreciate the kindness and generosity and positive attitude from our partners for the digital transformation, we need to work with different stakeholders so that the government is not seen as an island,” she said, adding that the ministry needed to work together especially as they try to move to digital transformation, which requires teamwork.
She added, “We work together with the private sector, academia, development partners, the government, and NGOs. We thank you for ensuring the success of the two summits.”
