The newly built multimillion Speke Resort Convention Center is extremely usable and ready for the Non-Aligned Movement and G-77+China summits, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vincent Bagiire has said.

Bagiire said already 30 heads of state and other Very Very Important delegates have confirmed their attendance.

He said other guests requested not to be mentioned but confirmed their attendance. The Secretary General of the United Nations and the President of the UN assembly have also confirmed their attendance, according to Bagiire.

In addition, six vice presidents and six prime ministers will also attend NAM plus a long list of ministers of foreign affairs of various countries.

He was Friday briefing journalists at Speke Resort Munyonyo on their preparations ahead of the two summits.

The briefing was attended by Dr. Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, ambassador Adonia Ayebare, Uganda's permanent representative to the UN and special envoy to the President.

Others were Ofwono Opondo, the director Uganda Media Centre, and other officials.

"We want to commend our partner Sudhir Ruparelia for putting up such a structure within a short time, I want to assure you that the structure is extremely usable," he said, adding that the National Organizing Committee (NOC) had organized their meetings in the facility as a dry run.

Bagiire said the guests were not for the country Uganda but for Ugandans and asked everyone to show love and welcome the guests by being happy and treating them well.

He said Uganda is bound to reap benefits from the two summits including attracting more investors, and tourists and getting diplomatic dividends.

He said the guests coming are spending a lot of money in the country and some countries had already written expressing interest to open their embassies in Uganda.

Ambassador Ayebare said they had lined up several critical issues to be discussed including the ongoing war in Gaza and would come up with a declaration on Palestine.

He said he would chair meetings of ministers who will come up with documents that will be discussed and passed by the heads of state.

Other issues will include poverty, disarmament, de-colonization, and protection of the interests of Low Developing Countries.

Dr. Zawedde confirmed that Uganda is ready to host the two summits and various committees have been doing all the preparation since February last year.
