Nalweyiso says to prevail over fake State House, security operatives in land fraud

“I will personally prevail on army, Police and other security agencies heads, as well as advise the commander-in-chief (President Yoweri Museveni), to declare a ‘kisanja hakuna-mchezo’ on crime, especially those related to land grabbing or in any way rendering poor bibanja owners homeless,” Nalweyiso says.

There will be no stone unturned in cracking down on land grabbers masquerading as operatives of security agencies and State House agents in the next NRM five-year term of leadership, senior presidential advisor on security matters Lt. Gen. (rtd) Proscovia Nalweyiso has said.

The remarks are contained in her congratulatory message to President Museveni, National Resistance Movement (NRM) party supporters and the entire citizenry of Uganda upon the president’s landslide victory in the January 14, 2026, General Election.

Museveni won the elections with 7,946,772 votes, constituting 71.65% of the total votes cast, according to the official results released by the Electoral Commission.

His chief rival, Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, garnered 2,741,238 (24.72%) in the race. In third place was Nathan Nandala Mafabi of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), who scored 108,301  votes (1.88%), George Mugisha Muntu of Alliance for National Transformation garnered 59,276 votes (0.53%), Frank Bulira of Revolutionary Peoples’ party secured 45,959 votes (0.41%), Robert Kasibante of National Peasants Party got 33,440 votes (0.3%), Mubarak Munyagwa of Common Man’s Party obtained 31,666 votes (0.29%), while Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party garnered 23,458 votes (0.21%).

New Vision Online today, January 19, met Nalweyiso at her home located at Ntaawo cell, Ntaawo ward in Mukono Municipality’s Central Division.

Proposal to increase political terms to 10 years

The 72-year-old former bush war combatant said she plans to approach the relevant authorities to influence tabling of a mission seeking to revise the presidential, parliamentary and local government leadership terms from five to 10 years, to cut down on the undue costs incurred by the state in organising elections, reasoning that five years is just a wink of the eye.

However, Nalweyiso watered down claims by the Opposition that they had been robbed of their votes, saying there was no way the Kyagulanyi Ssentamu-led National Unity Platform (NUP), with no parliamentary candidates in some regions, could match the National Resistance Movement (NRM) with a nationwide coverage of support.

NRM parliamentary caucus chairperson Robert Migadde Ndugwa said apart from retaining his seat in Buvuma district, the ruling party also managed to oust NUP from the district when Judith Naggujja, the NRM flagbearer for Buvuma District Woman MP-elect, ousted NUP’s Susan Mugabi Nakaziba.

Migadde, who was on Monday joined by some of his supporters to celebrate his victory at Buvuma main island, said his main mandate is to make sure that all the presidential pledges are fulfilled.

“For Buvuma, the president promised to connect us to the hydropower grid, upgrade Buvuma Health Centre IV to hospital status, and compensate people who surrendered their land for palm oil growing, among others,” he said.
