Kawempe North MP-elect Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has been gazetted by the Electoral Commission (EC).
"The pressure from all corners has paid off," said NUP's spokesperson and Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi in a post on social media platform X.
"We are now awaiting the swearing-in of our colleague so he can serve Kawempe North and Uganda at large," he added.
Nalukoola beat nine other candidates, including five independents, in a race to replace the late Muhammad Ssegirinya.
Earlier on Monday, NUP leadership met with the EC hierarchy over the delayed gazettement of Nalukoola.
The EC urged NUP leaders to remain calm, assuring them that the process was in its final stages.
EC's deputy head of public relations, Paul Bukenya, told the NUP representatives, including party secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya, that there were no shenanigans as widely assumed with the opposition party.
He said the details had already been sent to the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) for gazettement.
