The boy (names withheld), who had been reported abducted from his parents' home in Nakasongola on Wednesday.

Erisa Asingwire, who allegedly hid the child in a bush, was arrested on Friday.

A resident of Nakasongola, he narrowly survived being lynched by an angry mob before police whisked him away.

Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson, said the rescue mission followed a tip-off by an informer who saw the three-year-old boy being led to a nearby bush by an unidentified man.

Following the tip-off, Twineamazima explained that the police mounted an operation, rescuing the boy and arresting the suspect, who was later identified as Asingwire.

According to police, Balema went missing from his parents' home on the evening of August 6, after unknown people lured him with sweets.

Jameson Shaka said his son was in the family compound playing with his sibling when an unidentified man distracted them with sweets and gave sh500 to the older sibling to go and buy biscuits.

"Upon returning, the older sibling found that the younger child had vanished," Twineamazima said.

Twineamazima said the boy's parents immediately alerted local authorities and police, prompting a police manhunt in the area, leading to the suspect, who was found hiding in a bush with the abducted child.
