The Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba, has directed the technical team to fast-track the land digitization system to deal with the increasing cases of land fraud in the country.

According to Nabakooba, the ministry plans to put all the old information regarding land into the system, within a period of one year.

“Our aim is to put all the old information into the system because I personally believe that once we digitize all our records, then we will be in position to sense fraud, forgeries but also detect anomalies of double plotting and double titling it will be very easy,” Nabakooba said.

She added that: “We are giving ourselves a year to ensure that all the old information is put onto the system and we believe within a year, if my registrars and information technology (IT) people can put these systems together, then we can look at ways of safeguarding and strengthening the registrar.”

The Government introduced the digitization of the lands office to reduce the time of processing a land title and also ensure easy management of the land information system.

The new system was built by digitizing manual data records at the Lands Ministry to create a Land Information System.

Meanwhile, the ministry of lands in partnership with UN Habitat is set to on October 5, host a high level gathering on housing to discuss practical solutions to affordable housing in Uganda.

The symposium, will act as an avenue for showcasing and discussing innovative solutions to accessible inclusive, affordable and descent housing.

“It will be a platform for addressing cross cutting problems such as gender and youth engagement in the housing sector,” Nabakooba said.
