The Busoga deputy regional khadi, Sheikh Hassan Mwaita, has asked Muslims in Uganda and across the world to pray for peace in Iran and other Middle East countries affected by the ongoing war involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

Mwaita expressed concern about the conflict, noting that many fellow Muslims are being killed in Iran and other Middle East countries affected by the war. He said that Muslims in Iran are being killed in attacks from America and Israel, while Iran is also attacking other Middle East countries with Muslim communities in retaliation.

He asserted that Islam is a religion of peace that discourages bloodshed and urged Muslims to use this Idd festival to pray and make duwa for an end to the war and for peace to prevail in Iran and across the Middle East.

He made the remarks on March 16, 2026, while presiding over the donation of various foodstuffs to Muslims in Iganga district by Hadijah Namyalo, the coordinator of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, at the district Muslim offices in Iganga Municipality.

The Iganga district ONC coordinator, Abrahman Buyinza, who represented Namyalo, said the donation was aimed at strengthening relations with the Muslim community in the area and appreciating them for supporting President Museveni in previous elections.

He asked Muslims to remain united and maintain peace for continued development in the country as the President prepares for the swearing-in ceremony in May.

The district Muslim chairperson, Sinan Muwanika, asked Namyalo and the office of the Mufti to help facilitate the invitation of President Museveni to attend district Muslim celebrations marking 40 years.

Wakinyankali said they would like the President to attend the event, the date of which is yet to be announced, to help address development needs and strengthen collaboration with Muslim leaders in the district.

The district khadi, Sheikh Sinan Muwanika, hailed the donation and appealed to corporate companies and individuals to support vulnerable Muslims during the fasting period for blessings.

He pledged to continue working with fellow Muslim leaders in the district to organise such donations during fasting periods and beyond to support vulnerable Muslims.

Items donated included rice, sugar and cooking oil, among others. Beneficiaries, mainly people with disabilities, widows and the elderly, appreciated the gesture, noting the challenges they face in accessing food during the fasting period and on Idd.

Asia Namugogwe, a disabled woman with three children, said she had no alternative means to get through Eid day, which is slated for tomorrow, Friday (March 20).
