Musician Lady Grace dies in accident, others in critical condition

Lady Grace died Thursday in a road accident along the Matugga-Ssemuto and several of her colleagues are still in critical condition in hospital.

KAMPALA - Local artiste, Grace Batwire, popularly known as Lady Grace has died in a road accident along the Matugga-Ssemuto and several of her colleagues are still in critical condition in hospital. 

The accident occurred at about 3:00am on Thursday at Namakata near River Mayanja along the Matugga-Ssemuto road. 

The traffic and road safety Police spokesperson, Faridah Nampiima, confirmed the accident, saying it involved motor vehicle registration number UBB 033K, a Toyota Wish.

She said the motor vehicle lost control and overturned several times, plunged into the river killing one person who was later identified as Lady Grace. 

She identified the other occupants of the vehicle as Ragga Fire, and Ronald Alimpa of the famous ‘Olusuku lwa Seminti’ hit. 

She said all artists were rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment by their fellow artist, a one Hassan Nduga. She said the cause of the accident was yet established. 

Lady Grace was a dancer and performer in the singer Abdul Mulaasi’s ‘Farm’ and later joined Izon T, with whom they released a hit called ‘Layila oba onjagala’, which turned out to be popular and decided to turn sole.

It is said she was travelling to perform at a music concert at Ssemuto with other artists.   

But residents who reached the accident scene said another body was later removed from the swamp but it had not yet been identified. 

It is said the driver, who was rushing to reach the venue hit another pothole as he tried to dodge the many potholes in the road and lost control, plunging into a river. 

Those who were rushed to the hospital were still in critical condition.
