President Yoweri Museveni has embarked on an evaluation tour of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Wakiso district, calling on leaders to uphold transparency and ensure the initiative benefits intended recipients.

The President kicked off the tour on Monday, July 7, in Maganjo, Kagoma A village, where he visited the Kagoma United Fabricators SACCO and Skilling Centre, a facility he helped establish in 2018 to equip youth with vocational skills in fields such as plumbing, motor mechanics and electrical installation.
The centre, led by Edward Tebandeke, has since grown into a vital training hub for young artisans, many of whom were previously unemployed.

“I am happy to see that what we started is doing well, and you know how to use the machines very well,” Museveni said during the tour. He was accompanied by State House Comptroller Jane Barekye.
The PDM has already disbursed sh30.7 billion to 31,952 households in Wakiso, a district that spans urban centres like Entebbe, Nansana, Kira, and Makindye-Ssabagabo as well as rural parishes.

Wakiso is also Uganda’s most populous district, home to more than 3.4 million residents.
Museveni pledged continued support to grassroots development groups and reiterated his call for responsible leadership. “We want to see the real impact of this money,” he said.

Wakiso’s size and diversity 147 parishes and 363 villages, make it a vital testing ground for the government’s flagship wealth creation programme aimed at eliminating household poverty.
