Muni University has secured a place in the next stage of the Ultimate University Quiz after defeating Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in a thrilling Game 9 encounter of Season Three.
The much-anticipated match, aired on Bukedde TV on November 1, 2025, saw Muni dominate throughout, sealing a decisive 280–140 victory over their MUBS rivals.

The Ultimate University Quiz, one of Uganda’s most popular inter-university competitions, continues to showcase students’ intellectual prowess across the country, testing their knowledge, speed, and teamwork.
Saturday’s showdown between Muni and MUBS had generated much anticipation, given both teams’ strong performances in previous seasons. From the very first round, however, Muni established control.

Led by a composed and confident captain, the team responded swiftly and accurately to questions spanning science and current affairs. When asked to identify the phase in which most elements exist at room temperature, Muni confidently answered “solid,” taking an early lead.
MUBS, meanwhile, struggled to match their opponents’ pace. The team failed to respond in time to a biology question on the term used to describe the per capita birth rate of a population. By the end of the first round, Muni had built a commanding 60–20 lead.

MUBS struggles to recover
In the second round, which covered literature, politics, and general knowledge, MUBS attempted a comeback. They performed fairly well on questions about African political history but were repeatedly set back by missed bonuses and time penalties.
Quiz mistress Lydia Lakwonyero reminded the teams of the rules as the competition intensified. “I’ll put a question to you. You answer correctly, you get 10 points. You have 10 seconds to answer. You get it wrong; your opponent gets a chance to answer the exact same question. You understand?” she explained.

At one point, MUBS was asked to name the other contender for the world’s richest person in September 2025 alongside Elon Musk, but the team failed to answer in time. Muni quickly seized the opportunity, correctly identifying Larry Ellison.
Their momentum continued when they named Benjamin Netanyahu as the Middle Eastern leader who famously asked delegates to scan a barcode on his suit during the 2025 UN General Assembly, drawing cheers from the audience.
Muni pulls away
Round Three turned the contest one-sided as Muni displayed outstanding mastery of African geography and heritage. From naming the capital of Mauritania to identifying African Union initiatives, the team appeared unstoppable.

By the time the quiz entered the final round, Muni had already surpassed the 200-point mark, with fans in the studio applauding after every correct response.
In the fourth and final round, featuring alternating question sets, Muni maintained their composure under pressure, closing the game at 280 points against MUBS’s 140.

Despite the loss, MUBS showed great sportsmanship, congratulating Muni and exchanging handshakes as the audience applauded both sides.
Season Three of the Ultimate University Quiz continues to air on Bukedde TV 1 and 2, Wan Luo TV, and TV West, in partnership with the Bank of Uganda and supported by Net Studios Africa.
