Mufti Mubaje names five new Khadis for West Nile

WEST NILE - The Mufti of Uganda, Dr Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has appointed four New District Kadhis to head five newly created Muslim Districts in the West Nile region.

The newly appointed Kadhis are for Terego Muslim District, carved out of Arua Muslim District, Madi Okollo District, also carved out of Arua, Obongi Muslim District from Moyo Muslim District, Bidi Bidi Muslim District from Yumbe Muslim District, and Zombo Muslim District out of Nebbi Muslim District.

The new Kadhis include renowned academician and respected Muslim scholar Sheikh Said Omar Dramani, a lecturer at the Islamic University in Uganda, who also served as the director of IUIU Arua Campus some years ago. Sheikh Saidi Dramani will now head Terego Muslim District.  

Others are Sheikh Abdul Aziz Kassim Amin (Zombo), Sheikh Ochile Zubair (Bidi Bidi Muslim District), Abdul Wahid Juma (Madi Okollo Muslim District) and Sheikh Juma Adam Sebi (Obongi Muslim District).

Haj Zziwa Ashiraf, the Spokesperson of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, explained that at the recent meeting, the College of Eminent Sheikhs (Majlis, chaired by His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the Deputy Mufti, deliberated on key matters and passed several resolutions. Among these was the appointment of Kadhis for newly created Muslim districts on 26th April 2026.

Local Muslim District Councils nominate candidates from whom the final selection is made.

The College of Eminent Sheikhs (Majlis Al Ulama committee) interviews candidates and makes recommendations to the Mufti.

The Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, holds the final authority to appoint a District Kadhi.
