KAMPALA - Members of Parliament (MPs) have congratulated Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi II on the 32nd coronation anniversary.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on July 31, 2025, Speaker Anita Among commended the Buganda kingdom for its strides in health, education and leadership training it has attained since cultural institutions were restored in 1994.
“Parliament of Uganda will continue supporting the kingdom and in the 11th Parliament, I can assure you we have been fulfilling whatever we are supposed to do. We have paid a number of pledges that we made, made sufficient compensations to the kingdom,” said Among.
Bugiri Municipality lawmaker Asuman Basalirwa (JEEMA), who hails from its eastern neighbouring kingdom hailed the warm ties the two institutions enjoy.
“We should be replicating what is happening in this kingdom (Buganda). Borrowing and taking very good lessons, especially in terms of socio-economic transformation to our regions. We can do what is being done here,” Basalirwa implored.
However, for purposes of correcting the record, Speaker Among said that Ngime, who was running against Winnie Byanyima for the Mbarara Municipality elections in 2001, was simply defeated at the ballot.
The main celebrations took place at Kibuli Mosque yesterday, July 31.
