The Mpigi Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 30, 2025, charged and remanded the Mpigi district LC5 chairperson along with members of the district service commission over allegations of soliciting bribes for jobs.
The LCV chairperson, Martin Ssejjemba, together with Fredrick Kirumira, the Chairperson of the District Service Commission, and its Secretary, Sarah Nakamoga, were arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), working in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate. They are accused of demanding money by menaces from job applicants within the district.
The three have been remanded until July 8, 2025.
The state alleges that the district’s service commission has been involved in selling jobs, with applicants being asked to pay bribes ranging from sh50,000 to sh15 million in order to be considered for employment.
Their arrest followed a directive from President Yoweri Museveni, who, during his Parish Development Model (PDM) monitoring tour in the Greater Mpigi area on June 17, 2025, received complaints about widespread corruption in the Mpigi district recruitment process.
The President subsequently ordered Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke, head of SHACU, to arrest the district officials involved in the sale of government jobs.
