EDUCATION | TEACHERS' DAY | KIBOGA

KIBOGA - Kiboga district joined the world to celebrate World Teachers’ Day under the theme; 'Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery.'

The theme recognises teachers for their tireless efforts even during times of COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown.

The celebrations in Kiboga were held at Saza Playground. The Uganda National Teachers Union urged government to make more efficient payroll management to stop deletions and bureaucratic tendencies in the processing of pensions and gratuity for teachers.

Speaking during the function, Sarah Nasaali Amina, the vice chairperson Uganda National Teachers Association said they are celebrating this year’s teachers day when over 2000 teachers are starving due to the pandemic saying that even some teachers have not yet received their salaries due to negligence of some responsible officers running the payroll system.

She also said despite having a collective bargaining agreement on salary enhancement signed between public service unions and government, implementation of the same is still chaotic.

“Let us work together to give teachers the recognition that they deserve,” said Nasaali.

During the celebrations, a former teacher who is now the Kiboga Woman Member of Parliament, Christine Kaaya, donated a new brand vehicle Toyota Hiace Drone to improve service delivery in the district, especially to the teachers association.

She advised the teachers to go for vaccination as the government plans to reopen schools.

“We have started to table a proposal to see that teachers are considered accordingly since they have helped in educating the nation,” said Kaaya.

The Kiboga residence district commissioner of Kiboga district Badru Ssebyala advised teachers not to misuse the donation.
