LWEMIYAGA - Lwemiyaga County Member of Parliament (MP)-elect Gen. (rtd) Emmanuel Rwashande (NRM) has vowed to prioritise fighting land grabbing during his five-year term of office.
Speaking at his victory party held at Ntusi Secondary School playground in Lwemiyaga on January 25, 2026, Rwashande said he will start with fighting those behind the grabbing of government land in the constituency.
“I have a list of the Government land meant for health centres, schools and other government facilities that was grabbed by selfish leaders and individuals, we shall not spare them,” he said.
Rwashande, who ousted 25-year-long-serving area MP Theodore Ssekikubo, cited the eviction of locals from ranches among the challenges he must address.
“I have invited the lands minister to Lwemiyaga to start the struggle against land grabbers and illegal evictions,” he said.
Rwashande, a former Uganda military attaché to China, added that Lwemiyaga has over 20 land-grabbing-related cases in the Masaka court.
“Ssekikubo is behind the land grabbing cases causing eviction threats for our people in Lwemiyaga. Imagine some of our people reside in churches,” he said.
However, Ssekikubo denied land grabbing.
“That is political blackmail against me, the said Ntyazo land eviction challenges they are referring to were addressed by the court. I tried to help my people and am innocent," he said when contacted.
Last year, President Yoweri Museveni asked a special investigation team, led by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, to probe the land grabbing and eviction of locals in Lwemiyaga. Lands minister Judith Nabakoba was among those who also intervened in the land conflicts in Lwemiyaga and Mawogola.
Ssembabule Resident District Commissioner Jane Frances Kagayi said applying the land fund is among the solutions for the escalating land problems in the district.
New Vision Online learnt that NFA, wetlands and Bigobyamugenyi tourism site land are most affected by land grabbing practices in Ssembabule district.
Kasambya MP David Kabanda, who represented Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, appreciated Rwashande for ejecting Ssekikubo from Parliament.
“The Speaker has congratulated Rwashande with 10 cows. He needs to serve at least two terms to not give Ssekikubo an opportunity to return,” he said.
The ceremony attracted the first family members, senior UPDF officers and religious leaders, among others.
