A mother in Lyantonde is in Police custody following the torture and eventual death of her daughter.

The heinous crime was reportedly committed by Lydia Mbabazi, a 30-year-old resident of Nakaseta cell in Kabatema sub-county, against 8-year-old daughter Olivia Kekikari.

The harrowing events, according to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, unfolded on the morning of February 14, 2024, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to Police reports, Mbabazi was discovered brutally beating her daughter in their home, with witnesses recounting how she threatened to end the child's life.

Disturbingly, Mbabazi allegedly made chilling remarks about either killing her daughter and facing imprisonment or taking her to her father in Kabayanda village, located in Lyantonde district, according to Enanga.

“Tragically, the situation escalated further when Mbabazi was observed transporting the injured victim to Lyantonde Hospital. Despite medical intervention, Kekikari was pronounced dead upon arrival. Her body bearing evident signs of trauma and injuries inflicted during the ordeal,” Enanga said on Monday, February 19, 2024.

This was during the weekly joint media briefing at Police headquarter in Naguru, Kampala.

In light of the circumstances surrounding her daughter's untimely demise, Mbabazi, was promptly apprehended by law enforcement authorities and detained on charges of murder.

Enanga said the shocking nature of the incident has left the community reeling in disbelief and mourning the loss of the innocent child.

According to Enanga, the arrest of Mbabazi has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice as the community grapples with the devastating consequences of domestic violence and child abuse.
