Police in the Greater Bushenyi sub-region have bid farewell to Martial Tumusiime, who has retired after serving as the regional police spokesperson for the past 13 years.
Tumusiime, who joined the Uganda Police Force in 1991, served for 34 years across various departments and has been widely praised for his exemplary time management and unwavering dedication to duty.
Godfrey Achiria, the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Commander, encouraged officers to plan early for retirement and to remain connected to their home communities.
“Many officers tend to pass away shortly after retirement because of the isolation created during their years in service,” Achiria said. “I commend Tumusiime for his dedicated service and the thoughtful way he has prepared for this next chapter.”
Aggrey Okumu, the District Police Commander (DPC) of Bushenyi, described Tumusiime as a model officer.
“He loved his job and was always punctual,” Okumu said.
In his farewell remarks, Tumusiime expressed gratitude to both his fellow officers and journalists for their cooperation throughout his tenure.
“I am grateful for the good working relationship I had with both my colleagues and the media over the years,” Tumusiime said.
He officially handed over his office to Apollo Tayebwa, who will serve in an acting capacity.
