The State Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Balaam Barugahara on Thursday, July 17, 2025, got involved in a head-on car collision with a bodaboda cyclist in Kagadi district.

At the time of the crash, Balaam was heading to Fort Portal for the Tooro kingdom's annual youth conference.

Preliminary reports indicate that the unidentified cyclist died instantly.

According to one witness the cyclist had two other people on the motorbike.

Details about the condition and fate of the passengers remained unknown since the police was yet to issue a statement over the accident.

However, Balaam took to his X account (former Twitter) to narrate how he had survived the accident.

“Thank God for His mercy. Our car was involved in a horrific accident in Kagadi on our way to Fort Portal for the Tooro kingdom annual Youth Conference. I'm grateful for our driver's quick thinking and skillful maneuvers that saved us. Sadly, a bodaboda rider lost his life, and two of our people were injured. May the deceased soul rest in peace. My condolences to the family, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery,” he stated.

In June 2024, Police noted that more than half of the people who succumbed to road traffic accidents in the week between May 25 to June 1 were motorcycle (bod-boda) victims.

Police said most of these accidents result in injuries and deaths, with a large number of victims being treated at Mulago Hospital daily.
