The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem, has held talks with the leaders of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Uganda.
The delegation included: Inoue Yoichi, outgoing Chief Representative and his successor, Osaki Mitsuhiro.
During the meeting at his office in Kampala on Friday, April 10, Oryem expressed appreciation for Inoue's dedication to strengthening Uganda-Japan relations and wished him success in his future endeavours.
The Minister also extended a warm welcome to Osaki, highlighting Uganda's key priorities for development cooperation, including infrastructure development, agriculture and support for Northern Uganda reconstruction.
A release from the ministry states that Oryem emphasised Uganda's commitment to aligning JICA's interventions with national priorities and encouraged the Agency to expand its reach to underserved areas.
He also underscored the importance of close collaboration with Government institutions to ensure effective coordination.
Relatedly, the JICA delegation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Uganda's development and extended an invitation to Oryem to officiate as Chief Guest at JICA's 25th anniversary celebrations in July 2026.
The meeting underscored the strong partnership between Uganda and JICA, with both parties expressing optimism about future cooperation.
JICA's cooperation with Uganda is primarily focused on: improving the environment to attain economic growth, raising incomes in rural areas, improving the living environment (health services and water supply), and providing support in the northern region.
