State minister for Higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo has commended First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Mrs Janet Kataaha Museveni, upon receiving the International Woman Icon Award 2025, describing her as a pillar of reform and progress in the sector.
Speaking at the award ceremony on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at State House, Entebbe, Muyingo said the International Woman Icon Award 2025, which has been given to Mrs Janet Museveni, reflects her steadfast leadership, God-given wisdom and transformative reforms that have reshaped the ministry and the country at large.

He said Uganda has witnessed strengthened institutions, improvements in the quality of education and expanded opportunities for learners nationwide under Mrs Museveni's stewardship.
“Mrs Museveni's commitment has yielded real and measurable progress, inspiring many of us to serve with unity of purpose and dedication,” he said.
The minister said Mrs Janet Museveni's tenure has registered key milestones, including reviving stalled flagship projects within weeks of assuming office, overseeing the design and construction of fully equipped city secondary schools and introducing a revised competence-based lower secondary curriculum, among others.

Muyingo also cited landmark sector policies shepherded under Mrs Museveni's leadership, including the Early Childhood Care and Education Policy, National Sports and Physical Education Policy, National Teachers Policy, and other regulatory frameworks.
In sports, he credited the First Lady for steering an era of unprecedented national success and preparing Uganda to host the 2024 CHAN.

“Sometimes I wonder when people say, ‘what has government done?’ I invite them to see the centres of excellence across the country,” Muyingo remarked, calling the First Lady “a blessing to the ministry” and “a world champion” for education.
