A mentally ill man on Wednesday (June 29) killed two children and injured five others in a ferocious homicide in Bugweri district.
The suspect, Dauda Waiswa, conducted the attack at about 11:00 pm, which claimed the lives of Nulu Mutesi, 5 and Allan Owori, 6.
The deceased siblings' parents are Yahya Wangubo, 46, and Faima Naibira, 25.
According to a statement from Police in Bugweri, the five survivors, including a child of Shamiru Mugoya, are receiving treatment at Iganga General Hospital.
Waiswa is in Police custody under the charge of murder and attempted murder.
“The first attack occurred at 2300hrs in Malangu village, Ibulanku sub-county Bugweri district. Meanwhile, the suspect Dauda Waiswa later attacked the home of Kifuyi Said in Bubenge village and injured Siraje Kadala 60, and Esau Nkairugavu Vimbi, 63, who are admitted to the same hospital,” a Police statement reads.
“The suspect is said to have recently returned to Bugweri from Soroti. Preliminary reports indicate that he was acting violent to residents in the centre prior to the attacks, but none bothered to notify the police or local leaders.”
Police says Waiswa first vanished after the first attack but was apprehended after the second one in Bubenge.
The suspect was shortly held at Nakalama police station in Iganga and later transferred to Iganga hospital for medical attention, as he continued to be violent.
