The Anti-Corruption Court has sentenced Mayuge-based Nakazigo Primary School headteacher to 18 months in prison for embezzling shillings 176 million.
The court also barred Ramadhan Ngobi, 58, from occupying any public office for 10 years after convicting him of embezzlement and abuse of office.
He was also ordered to refund shillings 176 million, which he embezzled and deposit it into the IG’s Asset Recovery Bank Account held in the Bank of Uganda.
On May 23, 2025, principal magistrate grade 1 Christopher Opit convicted Ngobi of embezzlement and abuse of office, following successful prosecution by the Inspectorate of Government (IG).
“The prosecution has adduced evidence against you beyond a reasonable doubt,” he ruled.
According to the prosecution, Ngobi withdrew sh176m from the school’s bank account, which was meant for the construction of two classroom blocks and a five-stanza latrine at the school.
He instead put the funds to personal use, thus causing financial loss of sh176m to the school.
Ngobi was sentenced to 12 months in prison for the offence of embezzlement and six months for the offence of abuse of office. Both sentences are to run concurrently.
The IG urges all public officers to adhere to ethical standards while holding public office.
