Masindi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Emmy Ngabirano, has ordered the closure of God’s Mercy Nursery and Primary School citing poor sanitation and illegal operations.

The school is located in Miduuma village, Kijunjubwa, Sub-County, Buruuli Constituency, Masindi District.

The poor state of the school 

On Friday, the RDC discovered the reported anomalies during his routine monitoring and supervision of government programs in the sub-county.

Ngabirano said that though the sub-county authorities had advised the school proprietor to stop at the nursery level, he disregarded their advice and instead proceeded up to primary seven.

The RDC explained that the unlicensed school had a boarding section and the boy's and girls’ dormitories were close to each other.

The children who had no matron or patron have been sleeping on the floor since the dormitories had no beds. He added that the school was also operating in dilapidated structures and lacked security guards.

Ngabirano further added that the learners and teachers were also sharing the same latrine, which was also in a sorry state, noting that, as a government, they could not allow the school to continue operating. 

He advised other private school proprietors in the district to improve the hygiene of their schools and construct better structures that don’t endanger their learners’ lives.

Oliver Asiimwe, the Education Officer in charge of special needs in the district stressed that the school was operating in a poor hygienic environment, and had unqualified and inadequate teachers.

The education officer revealed that the school had only three teachers at the time of inspection and the two were for the lower and one for the upper classes.

Asiimwe revealed the school would be reopened when its proprietor meets the required standards.

We would not get a comment from the school director on the matter as he could not be reached at the time of publishing this story.

But Dennis Busobozi, one of the teachers, expressed concern that the school’s closure had dampened all his hopes of being paid the money he was demanding from its director.
