The bodies of prominent Masaka businessman John Bosco Ssenyonjo, 43, commonly known as Bitanda and his two children, who died in a car crash along the Kampala-Entebbe Express Highway, have finally been laid to rest after spending a week in the mortuary at Kitovu Hospital.

This follows a High Court order that mandated the trio to be buried on May 27 and 28 at two different locations.

On Friday, March 27, the deceased were buried separately as family members conducted the ceremonies at different sites.

Bitanda was buried at the ancestral home in Kyalusowe Kasaana, while the funeral for his children took place at his private homestead in Mpugwe, Masaka City, as stated in a ruling by Masaka resident judge Victoria Nakintu dated March 26, 2026.

However, the widow defied the court's decision and chose to bury the two children at her home on the same day. Jane Nanbukeera's camp opposed the decision to bury her husband at the ancestral site, arguing that he would have preferred to be laid to rest at his marital home in Mpugwe, but the court found that this claim lacked supporting evidence.

The burial dispute erupted last week after the widow Jane Nabukeera Ssenyonjo demanded that the husband and children be buried in Mpugwe, while her in-laws protested on the grounds that the deceased were to be buried at the ancestral burial site.

On Thursday, Masaka High Court Senior Resident Judge, Justice Victoria Nakintu, in the ruling directed that the deceased be buried at the ancestral burial site located at Kyalusowe, Nyendo-Mukungwe Division in Masaka city.

She also directed that the children be buried at his marital home in the neighbouring village of Mpugwe on day two.

The fatal crash that divided the family

Bitanda and his children died instantly when the car he was driving crashed along the Kampala-Entebbe Express highway.

It is reported that the family was heading to Entebbe Airport, where Nankindu was to catch a flight to India.

Last week, the court ordered that the bodies of the deceased and his children should be kept at Masaka hospital mortuary pending the case determination.
