The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has today started the marking of the 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).

UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule made the revelation during the weekly security press briefing at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on Monday.

Kalule said UCE exams will be marked at 20 centres, while 13 will be for PLE.

“The board has contracted about 6,000 examiners for PLE and 8,500 for UCE, where we have about 116 papers to be marked,” she said.

She added that the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams which kicked off two weeks ago are progressing well, despite cases of malpractice reported in some districts.

She noted that some science teachers accessed examination question papers during the examination, with the intention of performing experiments on behalf of their candidates.

According to Kalule, the incidence was reported at St Lucia Nsangi during Chemistry P545/3 and at Premier Secondary School in Hoima, during Physics P535/3.

“Both cases have been reported to the Police for further investigations,” Kalule said.

The marking exercise is expected to be completed by January 2023.
