APAC - The Police in the Apac district are yet to find and apprehend a man who on Saturday cut his wife of two children several times with a machete, leading to her death.

It is alleged that Hassan Heza, a resident of Acholi Inn village, Kungu Parish, Akokoro Sub-County in Apac District, on Friday cut his wife Santare Similimana, 30, to death.
Akokoro sub-county is the home area of former president Apollo Milton Obote.

This incident comes just two days after a 15-year-old boy hit his father to death in nearby Ibuje Sub-County.

In the instant case, Police said they were hunting for the suspect said to be on the run.
According to the North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema, Similimana met her husband in Arua and they had two children, a boy and a girl.

The couple then moved to Apaa in Amuru District and when people were chased from the disputed Apaa land, they moved to Acholi Inn village.

After a short while, Okema said the couple developed a misunderstanding that led to a separation before the local leaders. The man followed his wife and feigned reconciliation.

It was not until Friday, January 5, at around 3:00 pm, that the suspect asked his wife and their son to go with him to cut trees for burning charcoal.

Okema said when they reached the bush, the suspect told them that they were now hostages. He allegedly pulled out a machete and started cutting the wife, but the son escaped and went to inform the people around.

When people came for rescue, they found the woman lying in a pool of blood and the man had escaped. Attempts to save the life of the victim were futile as she breathed her last on arrival at the nearby health centre.

Okema said the case was reported to the Police by Patrick Aguzigwe the area LC1 chairperson of Acholi Inn village.

He noted that a post-mortem was carried out and the body was handed over to the relatives for burial.

“What an unfortunate incident, we advised the suspect to report himself to the nearest Police station or anyone who could have known his whereabouts to inform police for arrest and prosecution,” Okema stated.
