Maj. Katamba takes over as defence deputy spokesperson

Colonel Deo Akiiki officially handed over the office of Deputy Director of Defence Public Information to Major Bilal Katamba on Monday, March 10, 2025. This followed Akiiki’s recent appointment as the Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The handover ceremony, held at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya, was presided over by Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the Director of Defence Public Information. He emphasised the significance of innovation, teamwork, and leadership in driving growth and development.

“As a leader, you allow people to think both within and outside the box. That’s how people grow; that’s how departments grow,” Kulayigye stated.

He commended Akiiki for his dedication and contributions to the department over the years, noting that he had successfully completed his assignments and consistently demonstrated innovation.

In his farewell remarks, Akiiki expressed gratitude to both military and civilian staff for their support and cooperation during his 22-year tenure in the department.

Maj. Katamba, in his acceptance speech, acknowledged the guidance he had received from Maj. Gen. Kulayigye and extended appreciation to his predecessor for his service.
