Maj Gen Muzeeyi Sabiiti, the General Manager Luwero Industries Limited, is back on his feet after sustaining serious injuries in a nasty car crash about two months ago.
Upon resuming duty, Sabiiti on Monday hosted a team from the National Defence College Uganda (NDC-U) currently on a study tour of the National Enterprise Corporation [NEC] establishments.
Involved in manufacturing and engineering services, LIL is a subsidiary of NEC, the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs.
Narrow escape
In the September 13th incident along the Sembabwe–Gomba road in Kabango, Sembabule District, his car was reduced to a heap of mangled steel after a head-on collision with a lorry truck loaded with cattle.
The crash involved a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (reg. UDP-982L) and a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 (reg. H4DF). Sabiiti, his wife and children, travelling in the same car, were returning to their country home after a family get-together in Kampala.
Without disclosing details, both police and close family reported that his injuries were serious. Sabiiti, the former deputy Inspector General of Police, was airlifted by a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) helicopter to Nakasero Hospital in Kampala for emergency treatment.
Neither the Police disclosed the type of injuries sustained, but close sources reported that upon leaving the hospital bed, Sabiiti had been moving with the help of two crutches.
NDC-U Course participants start field study programme
Led by Brig Gen Kefa Nangeso, the Dean of Studies at NDC-U, Course members of Cohort Four began their field study programme with a visit to Luwero Industries Limited (LIL) in Nakasongola.
In his brief about the operations of the establishment, Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeeyi, told the delegation that the industry has played a key role in socio-economic transformation through innovation, skilling and human resource development.
He said these efforts continue to reinforce national security. He emphasised that security encompasses much more than defence, pointing out that economic stability, health, environmental protection and education are equally important, and that LIL’s operations directly support these sectors.
Brig Gen Nangeso said the tour is designed to provide course participants with practical exposure that aligns with the college’s national security curriculum.
A release from the Directorate of Communications, MoDVA, states that Brig Gen Nangeso explained that LIL was selected because it highlights the connection between industrialisation, technology, education and environmental management, all of which are central to national development.
The team included senior NDC-U faculty members such as Brig Gen Dr Stephen Kusasira, Head of Policy and Strategic Studies, Col JV Arigye, the College Coordinator, Prof Murindwa Rutanga, Head of Postgraduate Studies and officials from the college.
