Col. Geoffrey Kambere, hitherto Commissioner of Border and Foreign Nationals Management at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, has been appointed Acting Chief of Citizenship and Immigration Control.
He takes over from Maj Gen Apollo Kasiita-Gowa, who was recently recalled by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) after serving in the position since 2021.
The handover took place earlier today (March 05) at the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) in Kampala.
At the event presided over by Lt Gen Joseph Musanyufu, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Internal Affairs, Brig. Johnson Namanya Abaho, formerly the Commissioner Citizenship and Passport Management, handed over office to Assistant Commissioner Murari Moses, who was named as Acting Commissioner.
Abaho has been at the Directorate since 2021 was also recalled by the UPDF last month.
Relatedly, Assistant Commissioner Marcelino Bwesigye assumed the role of Acting Commissioner for Borders and Foreign Nationals Management.
The recall of the officers was communicated to staff last month by Maj. Gen Gowa in a circular where he stated that, “be informed that I and Brig. Johnson Namanya Abaho’s tour of duty in the Ministry of Internal Affairs has come to an end, and we shall be returning to Defence headquarters for other assignments. I thank you all for the opportunity to have worked with you."
