The Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, Justine Kasule Lumumba, on Thursday (July 14), addressed the United Nations (UN) high-level political forum on Uganda’s scorecard implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“While speaking at the forum, Lumumba reaffirmed Uganda's commitment towards implementation and achieving of the Agenda for Sustainable development 2030/SDGs,” officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Commenting about the UN meeting in New York, US, Lumumba said: “On July 14, 2022, I attended the roundtable of high-level political platform in New York re-affirming Uganda’s commitment on SDGs organised by UN under the theme, ‘Building better from COVID-19 while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.”

The forum is the central UN platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development at the global level.

Lumumba said Uganda’s Vision 2040, National Development Plan and the Parish Development Model (PDM), among other Government programmes have all been aligned toward the SDG agenda, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the country’s development agenda.

To fast-track the SDG implementation in the country, a secretariat was also set up at the Office of the Prime to monitor the alignment of Government projects with SDGs.

The SDGs are universal goals that mainly focus on the need to end poverty globally, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity, among other targets.

The 17 SDGs were adopted by UN in 2015, replacing Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

By 2030, UN believes all countries should have achieved the SDGs.
